Welcome to Hilary's smurfy website!
As a child in the 70s and 80s I had great fun
collecting smurfs with my brother from National Garages. We'd always
plague Mum to fill the car up at the garage of our choice and would
barely wait for the car to stop before we were out and in the garage
shop investigating the smurf display, hoping for new smurfs! Then we'd
excitedly take our new purchases home and introduce them to the rest of
our smurf family. Later on, smurfs were available in toy shops in the UK
but I don't think anything beat the excitement of a National Garage
smurf!
In 2008 I was looking for another hobby to occupy
me. My brother, now living in Australia, was soon to be married so I
bought the bride and bridegroom smurfs in his honour. Then I bought
Indian Smurfette because I liked her. I discovered Blue Cavern and The Smurf Community and suddenly I was lost once again to little blue spirits!
Since then, I haven't looked back. In October of 2008 I went to my first smurf fair, Blue Paradise Smurf Fair, at Evergem in Belgium, near to the city of Ghent. I had never seen so many different smurfs and smurfy items in one place before in my life! I was awestruck and, at first, a little overwhelmed. I soon got my money out and started smurfing though and came home with a great haul! I also met many smurf collectors that weekend, many of whom have become very good friends. Since then I've been back every year and look forward to seeing all my friends as well as adding to my ever increasing collection.
Towards the end of 2010, the British Smurf Collectors' Club was relaunched and I'm very honoured to be a part of it. Keep tabs on their website and forum for all the latest smurfy news and gossip!
Happy Smurfing!
